Taking care of what’s beneath the Make-Up…Your Skin!!!
Okay so we can’t deny that great makeup application looks even better when its applied to beautiful skin! So its important ladies(gents) that we take care of our skin.
First its important that we know what type of skin we have and then what time of products to use that will work best for that skin type.ย Most women of color tend to have oily to combination skin. However that is not the case for all women of color. So its important that you figure out what type of skin you do have, so you can take care of it properly.
Not sure what type of skin you have? Here are some ways to help you figure it out!
Oily Skin: Are you prone to black/whiteheads, or pimples? Does your face looks shiny, especially in the T-zone (the area across the forward and down the noise all the way to your chin). If you wear foundation does it slide off your face within a few hours? If you answered yes to any of these you probably have oily skin.
Dry Skin: Are there areas of your skin that feel itchy? Do you have flaky or rough areas on your skin? Were you someone that never had issues with acne? Does your skin complexion look dull? If you answered yes to any of these you probably have dry skin.
Sensitive Skin: Is your skin easily irritated? Do you have allergic reactions when you use certain beauty products? Do you have red, blotchy skin? If you answered yes to any of these? You could have sensitive skin.
Hyperpigmented Skin: First you may ask, what is that? Lol. Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of an area on your skin. If you get dark spots from breakouts, bites, etc. You have hyperpigmented skin.
You can also have Combination Skin. The most common type of combination skin that I see is when the T-zone is oily, other areas are dry and the perimeter of the face is prone to breakouts…(this is my skin type). However there can also be other combinations skin types
Now if you don’t have any of these issue and you just have normal skin…then consider yourself lucky! ๐ And make sure you keep it that way.
Once you have determined what type of skin type you have, its time to figure out what types of products work best your skin type. Now this may take some experimenting and research. If you have acne prone skin, figure out which products work best for you. If you have dry skin figure out which moisturizers works best for you. Finding out what products work best for you make take time. But in the end it will be very beneficial.
Two Products that I think every woman should have regardless of skin type: I believe that everyone woman should invest in a good moisturizer. No matter what type of skin you have I always make sure to moisturize all of my clients face prior to working on them. I tend to use Cetaphil is my kit, because it seems to be good for almost any skin type. You can purchase Cetaphil at your local Walmart. I also use Witch Hazel as a toner prior to applying anything to anyone’s face to cleanse the skin, and this is also typically great for any skin tone. Now there are other toners that you can use out there as well. So to sum it all up these are two products that I feel everyone one should purchase a good toner (cleanser) and a moisturizer, even if you have normal skin. It won’t hurt! ๐
As for makeup products you just need to experiment with this as well and see what products work for you and which ones don’t.
My last important tip to taking care of your skin is to REMOVE makeup products EVERY night. Please, please, please DO NOT go to sleep with your makeup on at night. That’s not good for your skin, and could cause you to breakout from doing this on a regular. Ladies, go out and purchase a makeup remover, do whatever you have to do…just make sure you remove ALL of your makeup before lying down to go to bed. PLEASE! EVERY night. Lol. Also make sure to wash your face every morning and night, cleanse it and moisturize it. YES every morning and night. It will end up being very beneficial.
To sum it all up there are several different good skin care routines out there. Do your research and find that one that works best for YOU! Google and Youtube are your friends! ๐
Until next time,
